Signal Cables for Accurate Geotechnical Data

Signal Cables

When a string of inclinometers sits at the bottom of a borehole, the signal cable is the only thing that brings the data back up. If that cable introduces noise or breaks down, the readings become worthless. Kingmach has been assembling signal cables for geotechnical instruments long enough to know that the cable is not just an accessory—it’s a critical link. We build cables that match the connectors, pinouts, and environmental demands of your monitoring setup. From vibrating wire piezometers to MEMS accelerometers, the cable needs to carry clean signals through wet trenches, vibrating machinery, and temperature swings. That’s why our cables get specified again and again for projects where data quality cannot be left to chance.

Technical Detail

Configured around process stability, mold life, and long-term uptime.

Kingmach Measurement & Monitoring Technology Co., Ltd. supplies signal cables designed specifically for geotechnical and structural monitoring applications. These cables connect sensors, loggers, and readout units in environments where signal integrity matters most. Instead of treating the cable as an afterthought, we treat it as part of the measurement chain. The cables come with options that field engineers actually ask for: multi-core twisted pairs for differential signals, tinned copper braid shielding to fend off EMI from nearby power lines, and polyurethane jackets that survive sharp rocks and prolonged submersion. You can choose pre-attached connectors molded to IP67 or IP68, or get bare ends for your own termination. Custom cable lengths avoid wasteful coils on site, and labelling options make multi-sensor installations manageable. Because every project has its own constraints, Kingmach accepts custom orders—different wire gauges, custom color codes, hybrid cables that combine power and signal in one jacket. Our technical team walks you through the options so the cable you receive works the first time, without weeks of trial and error. With a global distribution network, we get cables to job sites on time, and our after-sales support helps when field conditions change or additional sections are needed. If your current cable is giving you intermittent faults or you are setting up a new monitoring array, reach out for a specification review and a quote.

FAQ

Common technical questions

What shielding do Kingmach signal cables use, and when does it matter?

We typically offer tinned copper braid with coverage above 85% for most geotechnical cables. This is enough to block the electromagnetic noise from nearby motors, VFDs, and radio transmitters that often cause erratic readings. For long cable runs or sites with high-frequency interference, we can also combine foil and braid. If you are only dealing with low-impedance sensors in a quiet environment, an unshielded twisted pair can work, but most monitoring crews prefer the extra margin.

Can the cables handle being buried in wet soil or submerged in a borehole?

Yes, that is exactly what they are built for. The standard jacket is polyurethane, which does not become brittle in cold water and resists hydrolysis better than PVC. For permanent submersion, we add a gel-filled inner layer or use solid conductors to block water migration. The connectors are either potted with epoxy or overmolded to IP68. In practice, many of our cables have spent years underwater in dam monitoring without signal degradation.

What is the minimum order quantity, and can I get a few meters for a trial?

We do not enforce a high MOQ. For common configurations, you can order as little as 10 meters. If you need a custom build, we still try to accommodate small batches because we understand that field trials are part of the process. For larger projects, bulk pricing applies, but we are just as willing to work with a single monitoring contractor testing a new sensor.

I use several sensor types on the same project. Can you provide cables with different connector styles?

Absolutely. We stock connectors for most major geotechnical instruments—LEMO, Binder, military-style circular connectors, and even bare-wire pigtails. When you order, you can specify the connector type per cable length, and we will build them to suit. If you are not sure about the mating part, send us a photo or the pinout diagram, and our technical team will match it.

How do you handle ordering cables for a project where the exact lengths are not yet confirmed?

We recommend sending the approximate lengths first, and we can hold a few extra coils in stock for last-minute adjustments. Many clients add a 20% buffer on the initial order and then call off the exact lengths once the sensors are installed. For long lead-time custom cables, we work with you to finalize numbers in phases so you are not stuck with excess inventory.
